Help with high pharmacy costs is on the way to McLennan County’s 230,000 residents;
could result in millions saved in first year

 

Sarasota, FL, April 7, 2010 – BetterRxCard, a free drug discount card program offered by Sarasota-based Genuity Group, LLC, won approval by the McLennan County, Texas Commissioners Court to become the county’s sponsored prescription discount card program.  McLennan County, located between Austin and Dallas in central Texas, has a population of over 230,000, most living in and around the city of Waco.

Genuity Group will provide a program which includes all card printing and distribution, free access to the EquivaMeds drug cost reduction research tool, and extensive marketing services to promote the free card in the community.

Free discount drug card programs are not insurance, but do provide significant discounts – often well above 50% – if no insurance is available for a prescription drug.  The BetterRxCard may be used at nearly 40 local pharmacies with no restrictions – no age, income, or residency requirements – and everyone qualifies to use the card at any of the nearly 60,000 U.S. pharmacies that participate.

BetterRxCard adds a new kind of tool – unique in the discount card vendor marketplace – that can help two to three times more people. The tool, called EquivaMeds, is a patent-pending service that can reduce pharmacy costs for many with insurance.  In a 2009 trial conducted in Manatee and Sarasota County, Florida it identified an average savings of $821.83.

According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation study, 59% of Americans had some kind of monthly prescription drug cost.  By combining BetterRxCard and EquivaMeds together, the program is available to nearly two-thirds of all McLennan County residents, rather than just those who are uninsured.
